Just inform me as soon as your “replacement” crew member arrives. We will just weigh him separatly. If you have rthe same crew number and you’re not overweight, it should be ok.

I see that High Anxiety and Eleven are not registered for the Olson Long Distance. We asked the organizing comitee to make a seperate race for the Olsons on Thursday 10:00 am instead of making the Overnighter LD on starting on wedneday night.

Note that this race is non discardable.

We need you on the starting line!

    Hi Everyone,

Bruce Rand from O’Naturel has been in charge of the sail mesurement, Official weighing and boat conformity since (at least) 2010. O’Naturel won’t do the NAC this yeas so I will take in charge theses tasks for next week.

Official weighing, sail mesurement and boat conformity will be held wednesday night at 18h00.

I strongly recommend to every skipper to have a look at the class rules for required equipment. The man overboard pole has been excluded from the requirements since 2010 and we will do the same this year. The MOB pole is again considered as facultative Equipment.

    Hi Everybody,

Gary, thanks for thoses precisions about Perth Amboy venue. Theses are important details.

Jonathan an Gary: This is my last call about the Idea of having only 1 venue in the NY/NJ region. Are you sure you still wanna keep 2 different venues? I want to send the poll on thursday night so I need an answer before… If I have no news on friday morning I will send the vote with the 3 venues below:

    – Sodus Point, NY (LYRA)
    – Perth Amboy, NJ
    – Old Greenwich, CT

    Thanks,

    Dave

    Jonathan,

Whe already faced that kind of situation in the past and we can’t add points for 2 differents location or dates since someone who vote for a venue is not necessary available or do not necessary intend to show up at the other date or location…

In other words: 2 différents dates, even at the same location or yacht club are considered as 2 different venues.

That’s the essence of the vote…

If you don’t want to divide votes, you and Gary will have to choose between a venue or the other. If you can’t agree with each other, that mean that the 2 venues are in competition and needs a vote to elect one amongst the others.

    Are you okay with that?

Scott: I don’t think this will help us organising the 2015 North Americans. I Think we should discuss that kind of stuff

    for the 2016 championship.

Jonathan: Traditionally we plan 2 or 3 days of cource racing (8 to 10 races) + 1 Discardable long distance – Same

    formula as last year.

Will the regatta include W/L races?

Will you take in charge regatta organisation and logistics if the site is choseen?

    Is the description below okay?

Gearbuster – Indian Harbor Yacht Club, Old Greenwich, CT – October 10 to 12 – Registration under 250$

Don’t forget that wee need at least 5 1st choice votes for a site to be elected.

In my humble opinion, it will divide the US votes… But if it’s ok with you and Gary we will go that way.

    Dave.

    Sorry Jonathan,

Maybe I missed it. Is this the same yacht Club as the Red Grant Regatta (Raritan Yacht Club)? Who will in charge to attach our Championship to this Event? Will it be possible to have a long distance race?

    Hi dear Olson 30 owners,

Since there’s been no other developpement on the forum for a while, I propose to setup a vote this week to decide for the 2015 North American Championship venue.

    The two options will be:

1 – LYRA – Sodus Bay Yacht Club, Sodus Point, NY – July 28 to Aug 2 – Registration around 250$

2 – Red Grant Regatta – Raritan Yacht Club, Perth Amboy, NJ – July 10,11,12 – Registration around 200$

I would like to have 2 active members endorsement before proceeding with the poll.

We actually have a pretty accurate mailing list for of North East Olson 30 owners. Any owner that would like to make sure to be invited to vote for the 2015 NA’s Site Selection only have to send an E-Mail to classleader2004@yahoo.ca. The E-mail must include, Owner Name, Boat Name, Hull Number, Sail Number and Location. Your E-mail adress will then be added to the list.

The goal is the start the poll on thursday january 8th for a 7 day period ending on january 15th.

    Thanks everyone,

    Dave.

    Hi everyone,

We have a total of 4 proposals and We need to get this out to 3 realistic and Feasable venues to setup the vote:

Collins Bay Yacht Club, Kingston, Ont – Stand Alone Event – Dates Unknown
Midland Ontario – Georgian Bay Regatta – End of July
Sodus Bay Yacht Club, Sodus Point, NY – LYRA – Dates Unknown – Usally 200-250$
Raritan Yacht Club, Perth Amboy, NJ – Red Grant Regatta / Fall series – 2nd of July / september – Usually 150$-200$

In my humble opinion, LYRA in Sodus Bay and Gary Gochal inivitaion for NJ seems to be feasable options. I think we need more detailed proposal for the 2 others venues.

    Any Thoughts?

    Dave.

    Hi Guys,

Bruce and Terry: What’s going on with Loyalist? Do wa have any developpements? Two weeks passed since our last dsicussions. Many people need to book their holidays/vacations before april 1st. Personally, I think that we need to organise the poll this week or the next in order to have enough boats on the line.

    What do you think?

Do we have enough informations to include Loyalist as a venue for the NAC?

    in reply to: N/As con’t #3238

All – I had the same input from Scot Mundle about Loyalist regarding the Excellent Race Comitee and easy access to boats and marks. We need to have an official commitment from Loyalist that they can host NA’s, and dates that will guaratee availability of Race Comitee. We also need ton establish pricing for RC, tent, BBQs and trophys. If it works, We will also have to write down Notices of race, Race instructions and forms wich shoult not be an issue.

Personally and don’t really care of having a Big event with with sponsors if we can do it on our own for the same price. The event would for sure be smaller but I think it can still be proffessional and as fun as any other event on the list. If pricing is good for 5 boats and we can have an official cimmitment from LCYC, I think we can do it. If it turns out to be too expensive, we will have to drop this option.

Bruce an Terry – We will be awaiting news from you.

All – I suggest to establish a limit date to have commitment from LCYC and final logistic information. I propose februray 23rd. This way, we would be able to conduct the poll before march 1st.

    Dave.

    Hi Terry,
I exchanged some E-mails with Bruce Rand (O’Naturel), Bryan Sims (Panther) and Tom Bolland (Flying Monkeys). Here are their feedback:

    Bruce:
Dates are flexible at this point. Loyalist is my 1st choice only because of cost and the possibility that we will have 2 Kingston boats and I’m sure Terry(Ritalin) will commit making it 3. We could likely do all venues on lake ontario but no other.

    Bryan:
Sorry guys just got back from the uk now in the us. Later in the season is best but we will support and go to either venue.

    Tom:
Our Barrie boat wants to race after being in the barn all of last summer.
Personally, my preference is for Loyalist in September.

I Agree with Derek that recruiting a crew after august is more difficult.

Best dates for Derek (Organised Chaos) AND Jonathan (Attractive Nuisance) are 25-26-27 July and August 1-2-3 (those of LYRA and CANAM)

Considering all of this, I propose to set up a vote with 4 possibilities:

    Canam on july 26-27
Lyra on july 26 to aug 3
    Loyalist on july 25-26-27
    Loyalyst on august 1-2-3

I Think that the vote should be on our 1st and 2nd choices and that boats commit to go to either venue he voted for. I have a complete E-mail list of Every Olson Owners.

    What do you think?

    Dave.

All – Maybe we could narrow the options by considering only 2 weekends. So we would have 4 choices:
    Canam on july 26-27
Lyra on july 26 to aug 3
    Loyalist on july 24-27
Loyalyst on july 31 to aug 3

    Any Thoughts?

Terry – can you Confirm with loyalist that these Two weekends would be ok?

    Hi Terry,

I Agree with you that we need to have and idea of what peaople wants to have as much boats as possible on the start line. For Loyalist Cove, the LD race around the Island would be around 30 miles. Renting a tent and BBQs should not be an issue if marina is okay with that. I think that the most important are the launching facility and pricing, Race Comitee, water plan and distance from the fleet or quantity of boats racing.

What is the best way to have owners opinions from here?

    Dave

    Hi Guys,

I ramp launched Surfer Girl from Loyalist Cove in 2012. The ramp is in good shape and there water was deep enough. There was a crane to step and unstep the mast. Fee was ok but I don’t remember how much. People were great. There was solings racing right in front of the marina.

Personally I would prefer the Kingston Area rather than Ottawa where LD race would be compromised. There is 1.2 Nautical Miles between Loyalist Cove and Amherst Island, that should be OK for course racing…. I think that Kingston Area would attrack more boats than many other places. There’s already 2 olsons laying in Kinston.

Could anyone contact Loyalist Cove to have the fees and see if it could be possible to attach to an existing event and/or to plan a separate event just for us?

Derek, How much current on the river where you race in Ottawa?

    Hi Derek,

Glad to see that there are many Clubs that could potentially host the Noth Americans. Concerning the vote, I think that we have to agree on a system first. Here is a few idea that may help:

    – To avoid vote dilution, no more that 2 sites should be chosen for election.
    – The voting system should not consider 2nd choices:
Boats can only vote for their 1st choice.
    – We need to have commitement to garantee success of the event:
Boats that voted for the winning site must commit by paying the registration fee.
    – At least 5 boats must register and pay for the NAC to happen.

I also think that we should keep the LD race but make it shorter.Let’s say around 30 miles and during the day before the 1st day of course raceing, no overnighters (ex.: on Thursday). The LD should also be dropable and have the same wheight as the other Short Course races. In this way people that don’t like LD races or don’t want to show up on thursday still can compete for the George Olson Memorial Trophy.

    Any Thoughts?
