O30 “Moonshine” sails on the Hudson just north of NY city. I agree, it is time to have NAC’s somewhere here on the East Coast. We will be at either of Raritan Bay or LIS venues. Unforetunately, we don’t have a trailer, so traveling to any venue up on the lakes is not an option for us. We strongly support a North American Champs somewhere here on the East Coast! It’s time. It’s our turn.

Both venues would be good and I will offer whatever help I can with the regatta. I think it would be best to pick one of your venues to go into the vote. I fear if both of your venues are put into the vote, the votes will be split and we will end up losing the event to the lakes again. Having sailed a lot on LIS in the fall, I think Raritan Bay in July sounds a little bit warmer.
I am very interested in the sails you have. Please do not dispose of them just yet. I tried emailing you directly, but not sure it went through. Please contact me to discuss the sails you have. I live a few hours north, so could easily drive down to pick them up. Email: email@example.com or call 304-482-0474. I look forward to speaking with you.
Jonathan. I have been curious about this also. If you go back through the forum topics, you will find an old one that has several people giving their dimensions. I measured ours today to be 25 3/16″ from the forward face of the mast to the aft face of the V-berth bulkhead. I have been inclined to move the mast butt forward and based on the measurements in the old topic, I will likely move it forward about 1″. However, that will probably not be till later on this summer.
What is your distance?
Any chance the spreaders are available. We bent/broke one a couple of weeks ago and are having a hard time finding spreaders. What other parts do you have left? Do you still have the electronics? Having problems with ours, thinking of replacing the lot. Allen
Is anyone looking for crew for NA’s? I sail regular on an Olson 30 that will not be able to compete at NA’s this year. I have done every position on boat, but usually I am on the bow or on the helm. Would love to join the fleet for the event. Please let me know asap, so I can put in for the vacation time.
What is the status of the boat? Are you parting it out? If so, what parts are still available? Can you post a list of available parts or email me one @ firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks. ‘Moonshine’
Moonshine has been in a slow, and ongoing restoration over the last few years. We have been racing in our club events and local YRA (HRYRA) during this time. We would love to try our hand at some Olson 30 one-design events, however, we do not have a trailer. At least not yet. My vote would be for NA’s to be at RYC in Perth Amboy, NJ, somewhere on Western Long Island Sound, or maybe even here on the Hudson River. That is likely the only way we would be able to participate this year. We would love to participate and may even venture down to RYC for an event this year to sail against Slice (Gary Gochal), even if it is not NA’s. I know of two boats on LIS that are fairly active that may be convinced to come, if it is local.
I have sailed or coached at several of the locations and think that they all would be great venues for an NA’s. However, with this being, potentially, our first Olson 30 event, and that we do not have a trailer, we would not be able to participate in anything outside of our area at this time. If an Olson 30 event takes place in our area this year, we will plan to be there. That’s our two cents.
If anyone knows of any available trailers for an Olson 30, please let me know. Thanks.
