Quick update and teaser…
2017 NAs (launch Thur July 20th & racing Fri/Sat/Sun) are booked and NOR draft has been circulated for review.
I like the idea of 2018 milestone event planning for a big event on the coast. If Corpus Christi was chosen, could it host both Worlds and NA championships in tandem??
I mentioned KYC as NA host to the regatta planning committee; they’d like a formal proposal with date as they have limited weekends and a lot of requests. Should I submit an indicative proposal for June 17-19 and say that we’ll formalize/confirm by the end of January?
KYC doesn’t have a crane onsite, but the marina (stone’s throw away) has a travel lift.
In support of my local Canadian sailmaker, I called the Kingston Sail Loft (KSL) and validated that they only quote in Canadian Dollars. So the price was $2,700CAD, which given the strong USD buying power (0.76 to CAD today) is $2,052USD – a great deal!
If it helps, they buy all their cloth from the US, so you are also supporting the US cloth distributors; also, KSL holds your USD in a US bank account to buy the US cloth such that there is no fee for currency exchange. win-win.
And… with KSL sails, Ritalin won the Olson 30 NAs and we’re on our way to winning the Kingston YC weekend regatta series as well. win-win-win.He would say “dude”… ok – it was worth a try. I do know of a company that distributes dacron no-name sails out of china at fraction of retail price, but they’re not class legal and intended as practice sails or “cottage” sails (http://www.intensitysails.com/); also, I don’t think they do one-offs as their catalogue list is only for laser/opti/etc.
Let us know if you pursue or find another discount retailer.
Try calling the Kingston Sail Loft (613) 531 9373 (http://kingstonsailloft.ca/). JC (sailmaker) is a former Shark World multiple-champion and had outfitted Ritalin with all her sails including our new kick-ass #3 Kevlar jib. He’s also made many sails for the other Kingston Olsons.
I have found four interested individual experienced sailors in Kingston to fill spots on other’s boats. Please contact me if you need crew: michaelghull@gmail.com
OK – I’m on it. Can I have your contact info to forward interested people your way?
Also – you mentioned in a previous post that surfer girl, victix, and yourself are coming… but only victrix has registered… what’s going on with surfer girl?
Hi SWG! I’ll ask around Kingston and get back to you.
What’s your contact info?
Would you like an experienced helmsman or just general experienced crew?
Which is your boat?NAs fast approaching!! Four boats registered (Chicane, Eleven, Ritalin, Victrix). Registrants: http://nebula.wsimg.com/dcb0518e211419a2896dafbfbfdf059d?AccessKeyId=E001D751B48AC94DA377&disposition=0&alloworigin=1
Where are others from last year’s NAs??? Attractive Nuisance, O’Naturel, Investors Group, and Smoke’Em…
I know Organized Chaos is on the fence – we’d love to see you there! If anyone else is on the fence or needs crew, let me know, and I’ll bring experienced racers from Kingston.

With your registration, we’re at 4 O30s (‘Danesi’, Chicane, Eleven, Ritalin); plus I’m expecting one, if not two more (Investor’s and O’Natural) from Kingston coming with me. TO&QC…? Registered boats:

I’ve attached photos of the works done.Hi Javier,
Your issue it sounded like something similar to what I’ve observed on Ritalin… keel joint cracking (stb side only) with corrosion and lime stains leaking out. But looking at the pictures, I believe this cracking is well above the keel joint, so I don’t think it’s an issue with keel bolt tightness… unfortunately, I can’t help you any more then that.
We’ve just had Ritalin professionally repaired:
Milled out area seam where keel & hull connect, cleaned up, mixed & applied
G-Flex epoxy, sanded, mixed & applied Microballons, sanded, mixed & applied
Interprotect barrier coat on keel/hull seam. 4.25hrs x $80/hr = $340
650-8 West System G/flex Epoxy 1 $30
MB5G Phenolic Micro Ballons p/litre $20
Sanding supplies, mixing containers, spreaders, etc. $20

MikeBest NA location would be one that maximizes participation (and secondly hosts a good party!).
How were locations chosen in the past? Could an online survey be set up to poll the fleet on location and weekend preference?
Loyalist Cove is a great mid-point between QC/Ottawa/Toronto/US, but there are other locations in the area: Collinsbay Marina (Kingston), Kingston YC, Bay of Quinte YC (Belleville), etc.
The boat will be there, but I most likely will not… poor planning.
