Help: How to Make a Jockstrap (back to Article Page)

First of all, if you don’t want to make a jockstrap, Ballenger makes a complete one for the Olson 30.
If you want to make one, here’s one way to do so.
You will have to buy the base of the jockstrap from Ballenger, which fits perfectly under your mast cup.
You will also need to purchase two running-tread couplings, a piece of running tread, 6 nuts to fit the running tread, and some aluminum angle iron.
First have the running-tread couplings welded to the jockstrap base so, once the running tread is screwed into the coupling, the rods will go up near the chain plates.

Next, take the angle iron and bolt it to the chain plates or bolt it to the bulkhead (make sure you use a backing plate).

Drill the angle iron so the running tread can run through it when it is screwed into the base bracket.

Next, put the nuts on both sides of the angle iron bracket.  Tighten up the nuts so that each rod will not turn.  Cover the running tread with plastic shroud covering so that nothing can tear on it.
