Mast Cracks (back to

Mast cracks when the mast wires come out of the front
of the mast.
Most Olson have fixed this problem but for the ones
that have not see below.
Recommend everyone check the condition of their mast
around this hole. Remember that when the rig is
in the cracks will be tough (but possible) to spot
because the compression from the shrouds keep the
cracks firmly pressed together.
I also recommend that if anyone is putting in a new
mast (or sleeving a mast as a lot did) that the hole
for the electronics to exit be put on the side of the
mast instead of the front. The front and back
of the mast are the areas of highest load so
penetrations should be minimized here.
To sleeve your old rig. Ballenger makes a
sleeve that fits on the outside or inside. Use
Marine Tex to glue the sleeve to the mast covering
the old electronics hole. Than use pop rivets
to whole the sleeve while the Marine Tex
dries. Next drill the new hole in the
side of the mast for your electronics. I
you have any questions about this repair Ballenger is
very helpful and can explain how to fix it.
