3 Bridge Fiasco Report - Dragonsong
What a Fiasco! We had blast. Went to T.I. first, then Red Rock, Blackhaller, finish. Worked down the city front for relief from the ebb. Light air upwind and reaching. A wind shift let us cross over with a kite, then we worked along the T.I. shore for relief. Nice upwind leg to Red Rock. Were able to sail around a big hole between Berkeley and Richmond. Balanced going out for breeze and coming back in for relief. Nice spin reach from Red Rock through Racoon and over to Blackhaller. Still had ebb heading for Racoon with the pole near the headstay, then got lifted right through Racoon! Headsail reach to the finish with nice breeze. Finished 5th overall around 3:30.

Hot Betty, Enigma, and the O-29 stayed a bit farther out on the city front and got stuck - Betty Dropped out. Think Fast crossed over earlier and had a big lead on us, but we sailed around the hole they fell into before Richmond. Family Hour went to Blackhaller first, and must have gotten stuck. Didn't see Hush after the start.

We had a couple of gifts, and took advantage of seeing those ahead park-up. Mike is a real pleasure to sail with, and the those O-30's are pretty slippery in the conditions we had.

3 Bridge Fiasco Report - Family Hour
Jim Carlsen and I sailed the Three Bridge on the Olson 30 Family Hour. We started in 0-5 knots with a strong ebb went to 0 knots off Pier 39 back to 0-5 around TI and then got steady to 10-12 knots with great spinnaker run and reach from Richmond Bridge to finish.

We elected to do GG Bridge first, Bay Bridge second, and Richmond last. Wrong choice again. Best performance was Bay Bridge first Red Rock second and than Golden Gate. Overall race was a good time but long, left dock at 0830 and back at 1900.

This was one of the best rides we had on an Olson. This race is relaxing and most times great sail even if you don't finish.
