O30 Logo Information

I created a new thread to put this in its own file for future reference. Ken asked about the font etc for Olson’s.

Three files are attached. One is a TIF..a font file? If you install that..?..you will have it available for print functions.

Hmm..can only upload the JPEG logo. I’ll have Scot upload the others somehow.

The font style is REVUE True Type Font.

If Scott can load it, there will be a PSD file which is a photoshop O30 Logo.

I made a new version of the sail O30 logo which might be an improvement over what’s kicking aorund. I do a lot of work with type and there was something bothering me about the typeform of the logo (the one you always see) when it was set in Revue. Then I looked closely at the 1981 brochure image and realized the Olson logo in this image is quite different, and this is surely an image from an original Olson 30. The ‘Toilet Seat’ is much broader at the top and the 3 is a lot wider, also the spatial relationships and proportions of the O and 30 are quite different. Sailmakers kind of use whatever they can find easily so the logos propagate in various forms because if this. Anyhow tell me what you think. I can send a vector file of this to anyone who needs it.

@SWG You also have to remember that in the 80’s most sailmakers did not have a plotter that would cut the logo letters out, they did it by hand. What I am trying to say is that a sailmakers LOGO might not have been exactly what was supposed to be the official logo.

I spot at least 2 differnet o’s from the brochure…

for sure about the technological reason for differing logos over the years. if you look at regatta photos recent and not so recent you see a wide variety of versions of the O30 typeform. i think the original was hand drawn from a font similar to Revue so i tried to recreate that.
