Another boat got tangled in our bow pulpit as they were sailing out of the docks.

Not sure if it is repairable or not yet (tore the bow deck brace from the top rail.) Has anyone had any experience re-welding and rebending these? Will they hold their strength? No dents in the tubing (other than the tear at the weld) but some gentle bending.

Can you still purchase a new pulpit? (would also buy a used pulpit if any of you know of one but not sure why there would be one.)

    Thanks all in advance!

    Hi,
If you are in the SF Bay area, I can fix it for you.

Lilya I really appreciate the offer very much. Unfortunately I am in Austin TX, so it would be a bit of a trek to get to your shop. What would you have proposed to fix it?

(I attached a picture of the break.)

That looks fixable. If you can’t find a marine specialist just find a good architectural fabricator who can weld and polish stainless. perhaps a gusset between the top rail and the front post would be a good idea. i would not hesitate to repair that especially if you add a small gusset so it’s not just the weld as the structure.

Absolutely fixable. Prep it by drilling little holes at the 2 ends of the crack. Wash the piece inside and out with clean water. Let it dry for a few days before you find a reputable TIG welder who knows he/she(!)should use 316 stainless rod. An additional 316 stainless tube in the middle of the other two is a geat idea also.
McMaster-Carr would be a easy place to get 6″ of tube. Here’s the link:

Good luck! (not that you need it…it is a minor fix!)

Lilya, thanks again for the suggestions and all the help. I will ask around for a good TIG welder.
