You may need a mast head VHF for ChiMac and other ISAF class races. If your thinking roller for shorthanded sailing, read how Andrew Evans does it on a Olson 30 with out roller. Look on the single handed sailing societys site. A great read for any Olson owner. I am thinking roller is just going to slow you down to much.

Now Fiasco never had floorboards when i purchased her.PO never seen them either so i am wondering what is the weight or board thickness so when i make up some they comply. thx John

We use ABS plastic pipe cut to about 6 inches long. we have one on port and starboard riveted to boom near end. At the tack end of boom we have a stainless cable in a loop that the spin pole jaws clip on to leaving the pole fully supported and we leave up haul and down haul connected so it a simple matter to hoist. One of the Olsons here had a bag and later switched to this system they said they liked it better and it holds the pole higher on boom for less danger of a tacking mishap of boom bag hitting a crew members head.

Most Olsons that do longer distance stuff around these parts also sink a bucket into port cabinet for the sink requirement. Make it removable, a good can recycling center and can be used as a sink when on the longer races. For Pac Cup you need min 38 ltr water in a solid tank the rest portable. And the gimballed single burner stove meets the requirements around here.

Regarding bilge pumps…technically the bilge exit is out the stern drain and not directed into the cockpit. Sure there is some backup, but that is handled by the second drain. Chi Mac has this rule…but it applies, in my opinion, to direct discharge into the cockpit to have the separate cockpit drains serve to drain the cockpit. Olson 30 is save as is unless some inspector disagrees out there?

Check ISAF Offshore special regs 3.09.6 ( A bilge pump outlet pipe shall not be connected to a cockpit drain. ) So need to check NOR to see what regs they go by. If ISAF need to put thru hull in stern for bilge. John

So i took your idea and ran with it, My beam was a straight allum schedule 40 pipe between chain plates, so it was like the cross hairs of a gun scope in the boat with mast. Wow your idea really opened up the cabin. Printed off your post handed it to a fabricator and 52.50 later it was done but i went with schedule 40 again . Angles were perfect Thx John
