Just to update everyone about what we have to offer at Raritan Yacht Club, Perth Amboy, NJ. First…We have a hoist capable of launching your boat, second…mast stepping can be done with our gin pole, third…would recommend a distance race on Friday (say out past Sandy Hook to any of a number of buoys out in the approaches to NY Harbor, 25-35 miles or more), fourth…windward/leeward racing Saturday and Sunday as part of the Red Grant Regatta, fifth…excellent party Saturday night, and lastly…plenty of housing and food options in and around the area. Because of tidal considerations, launching would be between the hours of about 11am to 4pm on Wednesday 7/8 and 12-5pm on Thursday 7/9. Haulout on Sunday would be possible till about 8pm. Oh, did I mention that we would have a place to store your trailer also if that’s the way get there.
Jonathan, Raritan Yacht Club, Perth Amboy NJ is close to Western Long Island Sound. Just a day trip down the East River, under the Verrazano and into Raritan Bay. Many of our club members race at American and Manhasset during the season. It’s an easy trip down.
Just want to add the correct date for the Red Grant Regatta at Raritan Yacht
Club, Perth Amboy, NJ. July 11 & 12. A distance race can be held on the Thursday or Friday before to make it a 3 or 4 day event. We are also hosting the J/109 East Coast Championship the same weekend.As an Olson 30 sailor who has come up to Kingston from New Jersey 3 times to compete with the other Olsons I would like to offer an invite to hold the Olson 30 NA’s at Raritan Yacht Club in Perth Amboy NJ. We can drop this regatta on top of our Red Grant Regatta held 2nd week of July or with our Fall Series usually held in September. Our club has a hoist which can more than accommodate an Olson 30 and mast step can be accomplished with our gin pole. All this can happen at no cost to participants. Entry fees for either regatta is usually about $150-200 US. Raritan Bay is a wide open bay with plenty of water and leads out to NY lower bay and the Atlantic ocean. Long distance courses as well and windward leeward courses will be available. There are many places to stay and a wide variety of restaurants. The parties at RYC are also excellent. We do know how to have a good time. We should be able to attract boats from Long Island Sound as well as the Chesapeake. Any thoughts.
The Raritan Yacht Club Fall Series would have an entry fee of about $120.00, no charge for launch, mooring, mast stepping, trailer storage. Party is included, but food would be additional (reasonable cost).
I don’t see any problem with doing 4 days of racing. Plenty of room and options for a distance race and one design starts are also no problem.
I now have a firm date to propose for the NAC at the Raritan Yacht Club Fall Series which will be September 22 & 23. Once again, there is no charge to launch, step mast, or store your trailer. It would be suggested that we make the Olson 30 part of this regatta a 3 day affair starting on Friday the 21st. Thoughts?
I’m am still working on the firm date in September for our Fall Series but I would like to note that at Raritan Yacht Club there is no charge to launch, step mast, or store a trailer. Only costs would be entry fee (approx $110), and your housing. There are many options for housing in Central Jersey. BTW, the Saturday night party doesn’t suck either. Fast is Fun!
I have 2 dates that I can propose for the NA’s at Raritan Yacht Club in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. 1st date would be the RYC Red Grant Regatta, July 13, 14, & 15 which I understand falls on top of one of the Kingston regattas. The other date would be in September which would be part of the RYC Fall Series which is always a lot of fun. Again, we could do a 3 day affair so as to get in plenty of races. I will get back in a couple of days to get specific on the September dates. Hopefully, this would be abel to get boats up from the Chesapeake as well as Ontario and points in between.
