Lilya,
Fast company has this same 2×4, off center just aft of companion way. Never thought to clap outboard there. Oh, we don’t have one…On Fast Company we used Kiwi grip. Quick easy looks great (my Crew Like it) easy to touch up, No glass & cool below decks.
Yours looks great! The actual cross member will show signs of compression. You might take a small hammer and do some sounding.
“Fast Company”
Kauai, HawaiiA mild solution of Muriatic acid on a rag. Us gloves and rinse well. Also cleans up rust stains on stainless around the boat.
I’d love to. Need a boat, Have sails & crew…
I’m getting there…It’s hard work but I’m up to the task ;-)’
Lifesling may be great for recovery if you have the opportunity to respond quickly. Imagine having the spin up, it’s blowing 20+ and the reason your crew is in the water is that you just crash jibed, you can’t just put the helm over… With the horseshoe & pole one can quickly deploy, get the boat under control and have a better chance of finding your crew in the water and then getting to them. Great item, not a replacement for a MOP.
on Fast company we replaced cabin top winches w/ Harken 40.2’s have cam cleats on teak hatch slides. #3 jib from lead blocks straight to winches. Topping lift to small block on deck and back up about 6″ to a upside down Harken swivel cam. Pull strait up to raise pole, Step on line to release.
We sail in big seas and lots of wind and feel totally comfortable w/ our 1/4″ Amsteel. Pre-stretch it.
Ray,
Just saw your post, Yes I know Adrian, his second Single handed Transpac in Idefix. Good guy. I’ve had the pleasure to spend some time w/him on Kauai. I am impressed by him, his attitude and energy. I can’t imagine sailing an Olson 30 w/ two other people to Australia. Haven’t heard how it went.Bruce, Great to have you aboard. Greatly appreciated your input. Next visit could be a bit longer & maybe we’ll have some breeze.
Thank you Jason!
We have all these boats yet we get seven to the nationals??? How many boats were sitting around unused within 100 miles? I would have paid to use one, and it would come back better for it. I’m just sayin…Ray,
What kind of and how much purchase do you have on your backstay?
Bruce,
Please do (808) 639-1116.
BTW the three Olson’s racing Friday are Fast Company, Speedy & Weatherly.True, but the cork screw is at the ready.
I’ve been using white plastic cutting board material as backing plates, above and below decks. Works well for cam cleat wedges too…
108,WOW, we have a 96 in Hawaii.
At this point I’m counting heads… Our water here is a bit different color too.
I know that trim.
Ray,
12-1500 sounds high. I bought new handrails for $23ea through Amazon. The only semi tricky pieces to make are the hatch slides. We let ours go grey.Ray,
Why do you feel you need stainless? We have a solid glass post and have had no problems. We put some serious loads on it during our inter island crossings. I agree with Al that stainless is a mistake.Garhauer makes great stuff and there cust. service is wonderful. I haven’t bought there stanchions yet but I am in need. I can’t recall how many we’ve gone through. Just broke one Sunday blowing 28kts and round down crash ;(…
Jason,
Thanks!!! I’ll be staying away from the vodka this year too ;)…
I’m willing to haul one from not too far away if needed.Todd,
Still looking for a boat. Any ideas?
Dale,
I have no idea about our panel. Came w/ the boat. I moved it to the hatch top from poop deck. Still works, keeps battery charged, though we rarely use it. Doesn’t make us faster, doesn’t slow us down…way more pressing concerns.
lilya,
I have simple Harken flush mounts. Harken # 604740 or 604741
How are things progressing? Keep me posted.
We got plenty of water but we haven’t melted or washed away yet.Looking forward to seeing you soon.
PS: still looking for a boat to do Nationals…
Ray,
Prob. close to 3k when all said and done.Yes they have good washers on the outside, thought the main force on the first lower pair is sheer. I forgot to show a picture of the outside of the cockpit. The lines are just aft of the traveler control lines w/ small cam cleats.
add images.
Make sense???
OK gang some photo’s of our Backstay system. (port side looking aft)
0300 shows 5×1 (yellow Apex braid) exits through cockpit side just aft of traveler. Upper tang is 3×1 kevlar. Both of these anchor to underside of main jib turning block. 301 is closer image. 302 shows 6×1 to 3×1 to standup block to check block through deck. (see old transom holes from old tangs/straps). 309 shows backstay split through deck. (very clean) 308 shows split block. -
